Dear Alaska Gold customers,

Years ago I spent some time living in Spain. I brought home a deep appreciation for food that I had never really had before. The emphasis on healthy high-quality ingredients with relatively simple preparations taught me not only to love food but also made me feel better. I’m not alone, as friends and family have had similar epiphanies while traveling in France, Italy, Greece and other parts of the Mediterranean region. There is a reason that people keep coming back to Mediterranean cuisine for health, longevity, overall wellbeing, and taste too.

The emphasis on plant-based foods and proteins like seafood characteristic of Mediterranean cuisine is also common with our customers. So many of our customers that I speak with on the phone note that our Alaska Gold Seafood is their primary protein and with the switch to eating more seafood their bodies are feeling better. Eating our Alaska Gold Seafood, along with plants and seeds rich in vitamins A, E and K, creates a synergistic effect whereby these nutrients are more readily absorbed by the body. In addition, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, combining plants and seafood together as part of a regular diet creates a nutrient synergy that fills in nutrient gaps, such as EPA, DHA, Vitamin D, and B12, that can be missing in exclusively plant-based diets and improves absorption of essential nutrients that the body needs.

This month we’re celebrating Mediterranean cuisine and some Mediterranean-influenced recipes from our friend Samantha Ferraro, author of The Weeknight Mediterranean Kitchen. Check out our Seared Coho Salmon with Green Olive Salsa, a King Salmon with Lemon Caper Sauce and Cauliflower Puree, a Seared Halibut with Spinach, Mushrooms and Risotto, and our Black Cod with Romesco.

We hope you are safe and well.

With gratitude,

The Folks at Alaska Gold Seafood
